Brooklyn man indicted for manufacturing and distributing cocaine and fentanyl

BURLINGTON — Dontayveus Thomas, 32, of Brooklyn, New York, has been federally indicted for conspiracy to manufacture and distribute cocaine base and fentanyl, as well as for possession with intent to distribute both substances.


Thomas was arraigned on April 4, 2025, before U.S. Judge Judith G. Dein and is currently being held pending further proceedings.

According to court records, on February 25, 2023, Winooski firefighters responded to a fire alarm at an apartment where they discovered evidence of narcotics manufacturing. Police obtained a search warrant and later seized approximately 400 grams of cocaine, 180 grams of cocaine base, and more than 130 grams of fentanyl. Further investigation tied Thomas to the manufacturing and possession of the seized drugs.


If convicted, Thomas faces a minimum of five years and up to 40 years in federal prison.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasized that an indictment contains only allegations and that Thomas is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.


Two men arrested in North Troy burglary of municipal building


Darin Farley, 37, of North Troy, and Leon Housewright, 43, of North Troy, were arrested Sunday evening after allegedly breaking into the North Troy Municipal Building on Railroad Street.



On April 13, 2025, at around 6:45pm, Vermont State Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress. Police say two masked individuals broke in through a side door and fled the scene before officers arrived.


A subsequent investigation identified Farley and Housewright as the suspects. Farley was additionally found to be violating active court-ordered conditions of release. Both men were located at a nearby residence, taken into custody, and lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail.


Westminster woman charged with domestic assault, alleged child abuse


Police have arrested and charged Shirley Sprague, 76, of Westminster with domestic assault, violating conditions of release, and violating an abuse prevention order following a report of alleged child abuse on April 13, 2025.

Vermont State Police responded to the residence at around 11:30am and determined Sprague had committed multiple offenses. She was taken into custody and processed at the Westminster Barracks.
