The case was initially referred to the Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations on January 2, 2025, by the Vermont Department for Children and Families (DCF). According to investigators, McCoy is accused of sexually abusing a juvenile victim over a prolonged period of time. During the investigation, a second victim was identified, an adult who was a juvenile at the time the alleged crimes were committed.

Detective Joanna Morse of CUSI, along with a DCF Family Services Worker, led the investigation, which revealed probable cause that McCoy engaged in repeated sexual acts with multiple young victims over several years. McCoy previously lived in Winooski.

The investigation remains ongoing.
