Burlington man arrested for “lewd and lascivious” act

Police responded to an incident on Cherry Street in Burlington in the afternoon on January 5 where a man was reportedly, “conducting a lewd and lascivious act.”

The man was identified as Daniel Podell, 59, of Burlington. Police did not reveal what the specific act was. Additionally, police learned that Podell had an active warrant for two felony counts of lewd and lascivious conduct.


When police attempted to take Podell into custody, he resisted violently and reportedly kicked a police officer. Police eventually subdued him and took him into custody for lewd and lascivious conduct, assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and violation of conditions of release.

Podell’s criminal history includes: 

3 failures to appear, 

1 charge of violations of court orders or conditions, 

9 misdemeanor charges with 5 convictions, 

1 assaultive crime charge with 1 conviction.


Woman arrested for DUI, child in the vehicle


Vermont State Police arrested Alison C. Ferleng, 35, of Jamaica, VT for a DUI on January 5. This is Ferleng’s second DUI offense.


Police say they observed a white Jeep travelling on VT Route 30 in Jamaica that was unable to maintain its lane. Police broadcast a “Be on the lookout” (BOL) report for the car, which was eventually located in Harmonyville. In Harmonyville, the car nearly struck the Sheriff's patrol vehicle at an intersection.


Police were able to stop the vehicle near the River Bend Motel on VT Route 30. Ferleng was arrested after showing signs of impairment.


Furthermore, a child was a passenger in the jeep, improperly riding in the front passenger seat. After processing, Alison was released to a responsible adult on a citation to appear in the Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division at a later date.


She is being charged with DUI (2nd offense), grossly negligent operation of a vehicle, and child cruelty.


She is due in court on January 21.


Unidentified men rob gas station at knifepoint, police seek answers


Vermont State Police are searching for several individuals who robbed the Mobil Mart in Lyndon Vermont on January 5. 


An unknown man entered the store, displayed a knife, and proceeded to steal an unknown quantity of goods / cash.


Nobody was harmed during this incident.


The suspect is believed to be a white male approximately 5'9" wearing tan-colored shoes and coat with a light-colored bandana around his face. The suspect was seen on security footage getting into a light-colored sedan operated by an unknown individual.

Catalytic convertor and 25 gallons of gas stolen from truck


Recently, police received a report of a theft that occurred at Rozelle Inc on Loop Road in Westfield.


Police say that sometime between December 19, 2024 and January 7, 2025, a truck on the property had its catalytic converter removed along with upwards of 25 gallons of gas siphoned out of its fuel tank.
