Fleeing man tries to stab cops with needle

On December 30 at 11:30 AM, Burlington police saw Aaron Montgomery, 35, of Springfield, who had an active arrest warrant, near North Union St. and North Winooski Ave. in Burlington.


When officers approached Montgomery to arrest him, he sprinted away. Police pursued him.  A physical altercation ensued. Montgomery attempted to stab the officers with a needle.

As other officers arrived on scene, the officers were able to place Montgomery into handcuffs. Montgomery continued to resist by kicking, spitting on, and attempting to bite officers.


Montgomery was taken into custody for aggravated assault, resisting arrest, assault on a law enforcement officer, and disorderly conduct.

6 failures to appear, 

9 felony charges with 7 convictions, 

28 misdemeanor charges with 8 convictions, 

5 assaultive crime charges with 3 convictions, 

1 dangerous/deadly weapon charge, 

8 charges for probation/parole violations with 14 convictions.

Young man speeds away from police on I-89


On December 28, 2024, around 1pm, state police saw two vehicles excessively speeding on I-89 near the town of Milton. Police attempted to stop the vehicles near St. Albans, only managing to stop one. 


The second car fled police. It was spotted speeding and driving in a negligent manner near Carter Hill Road in Highgate by a Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy. He was pulled over.

The first driver was a juvenile from Colchester and was issued a citation for speeding on the interstate.


The second driver who was pulled over in Highgate was identified as Shane Robtoy, 20, of Swanton, and issued a citation to appear in Franklin Superior Court, Criminal Division, to answer the charge of negligent operation.


Stolen car in Proctor


Police were notified of a car theft on December 31 at around 4:30 AM. The Vermont State Police arrived on the scene at 30 West Street in Proctor for investigation.


After some preliminary investigation, police learned that two suspicious individuals dressed in black were spotted several hours prior walking up and down driveways, presumably scoping out cars.


Troopers were unable to locate them.The vehicle was located around 7:30 AM in 77 Grove Street, Rutland City. The vehicle was returned to the original owners.


At around 9 AM, police were notified of another vehicle break-in, this time at 4 School Street, also in Proctor. The Vermont State Police believe these crimes are related and ask anyone who may have information regarding them to call the Vermont State Police at 802-773-9101.


Man holds up car with gun in Burlington


On December 28, Burlington Police responded to Lake Street for a report of a male pointing a gun at a vehicle and preventing the occupants from leaving.


According to police, Raymond Library, 38, of Burlington was standing in the middle of the road, pulled out something that looked like a firearm, and pointed it at the vehicle.

There were four occupants in the car.


Police located Liberty and took him into custody for four counts of aggravated assault. Liberty was later released on conditions by a judge.
