After extensive investigation, Vermont State Police have arrested Jonathan Rau, 40, of Sharon for an alleged incident occurring on December 3, 2024.
Police arrested Rau on January 8 on two counts of aggravated sexual assault, voyeurism, soliciting prostitution, attempted obstruction of justice, and providing alcohol to a minor. He is also alleged to have filmed some of the acts.
Rau is a registered sex offender.
Rau was held without bail and appeared in the Criminal Division of the Orange County Superior Court on January 9, where he pleaded 'not guilty.' This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Vermont State Police at 802-234-9933.
DUI on Wednesday night
A Burlington police officer attempted to stop a vehicle at the intersection of Colchester Avenue and East Avenue last Wednesday on January 8.
Shortly thereafter, the vehicle failed to stop at a red light and struck the officer’s police cruiser. Then the officer requested assistance.
When additional officers arrived on scene, investigation revealed the female driver was suspected to be under the influence after officers observed signs of impairment. The driver was Anna Siegel, 23, of Winooski who was taken into custody.
She was transported to the South Burlington Police Department for processing. Siegel was later released with a citation for DUI.
The young woman has had other run-ins with police, including an alleged arson incident that she was not prosecuted for in 2020.

Two separate shoplifting incidents believed to be connected
Two separate shoplifting incidents, one in Warren, the other in Waterbury are believed to be perpetrated by the name suspect(s).
The incident in Waterbury occurred at the Stowe Street Emporium on 23 Stowe Street on December 15, 2024. The two individuals pictured are alleged to have entered the store and removed merchandise without paying for the item.
The incident in Warren occurred at the Warren Store on 384 Main Street. Investigation revealed that on January 1, an individual entered the store and removed merchandise without paying for the items. The stolen merchandise is valued at $925.

Burglary in North Troy
Vermont State Police are investigating a burglary at 802 Market & Deli on Railroad St in the village of North Troy. Police were unable to locate the suspect.
Investigation determined the perpetrator forcefully entered the building and stole an estimated $400.00 worth of merchandise, in addition to damaging the door. Evidence has been collected from the scene.

Rising reports of mailbox vandalism
Multiple mailboxes were reported to have been vandalized in Halifax on January 7.
The vandalism occurred on Jacksonville Stage Rd and Old Stage Rd in Halifax. There have also been reports to the State Police of similar activities in Halifax and surrounding areas over the last few weeks.
